Shining Moments is on it's own

Well, I just wanted to clarify for some people that my company, Shining Moments Consulting, will no longer be contracting its services through A Moment Like This Wedding Planners. I still support AMLTWP and wish them continued success. Working with them over the last 9 months has been a GREAT experience.

I will still be providing event planning services. I will also be operating the Wedding Bazaar, but instead I will be doing it on my own as well as the Wedding Workshops that I have done in the past. Nothing has really changed in the stand point of Shining Moments Consulting except that I will be advertising my own company again and it's my company name at the top of the contract instead of AMLTWP's.

So watch for more exciting ventures and deals from Shining Moments in the new year!

Happy New Year,
Teresa Reimer

A New Addition

For the last six weeks I have been a little preoccupied. As some people know, I was expecting a baby at the time of the Wedding Bazaar. I was supposed to have three weeks to go, but my newest addition to my family felt like he needed to arrive earlier. Jacob was born on November 6th.

As a planner, his early arrival sort of threw a wrench in my arrangements. Luckily I had some prior arrangements made but I was also going to have a birthday party that following weekend for my daughter who was turning 3 the day before Jacob was due. Therefore we were having her party ahead of time. Little did we know that Jacob obviously felt he needed to be the center of attention instead. I had made arrangements for helpers to come in and work at the party and luckily I wasn't needing to cancel it. Everyone helped out to ensure that Cassidy still had her special day, even though Jacob was only 5 days old.

How does any of this relate to being a wedding planner, you ask? Well, it is just another example of how "you never know what to expect" and how you deal with these interruptions is going to affect the outcome of any special day.

One aspect of a great wedding planner, is being able to think quickly on your feet. When looking for a wedding planner, they obviously need to be organized, but they have to be able to make split second decisions that will still give your day the "feel" that you are looking for.

From cake disasters to wedding crashers, a bride & groom shouldn't be bothered. That is what a wedding planner is for, to take care of these issues on the day of your function.

Wedding Bazaar Turnout!

This past weekend we held a first time ever Wedding Bazaar.

This event was designed for past brides to come in and sell off their wedding dresses or ANYTHING that was wedding related (eg. arches, tulle, ring pillows, flower girl dresses, baskets, vases, etc). This being the first time, there a handful of tables rented for selling items. Then we added six different vendors that were experts in helping brides save money & have fun for their wedding planning. Finally we had a wedding dress wholesaler come in and sell off her sample stock (with prices as low as $100 per dress), as well as 20 other dresses registered from past brides. We had quite a few brides trying dresses on in the on site fitting rooms and a there were some brides that found "the one!"

We had just under 100 people attend and we collected donations to a Charity called Basics for Babies.

Overall, the event was good, now this next one will be bigger & better!

We are going to hold this event possibly twice a year (fall & spring).

Watch for the next one to be in April 2008!

Here's some pictures from the event!

Tickled Pink Photography - Lisa Luft

In this industry there are many things that you learn. One of which is when you find a great vendor, you make friends with them and cherish them.

I ha
ve met quite a few great photographers, but I have two favorites that I have the pleasure of knowing.

1. Lisa Luft of Tickled Pink Photography - http://www.tickledpinkphoto.ca/

2. Mark Budworth of Softlight Photography - http://www.softlightphotography.ca/

I had the pleasure of working with Lisa on the wedding of July 7, 2007 (Jack & Jenny) and just last week I had Lisa take some pictures for my website (NEW LAUNCH AT THE END OF SEPTEMBER).

She truly has talent and I am a very picky person when it comes to photos of myself, and I have to say, I've never had so many photo's of me that I liked. Not even from my wedding day (where was she 7 years ago?)

Well, here are my "top 3"! Lisa has great pricing and I highly recommend her for your wedding day. She will be at the Wedding Bazaar on October 28th, 2007 (see previous post), so if you want to meet her, come & check it out!

July 7, 2007 - Jenny & Jack

It was funny....on the Luckiest Wedding Day of the year, Jack & Jenny sure didn't need it! They were meant for each other.

Jenny was one of those brides that knew what she wanted, but was willing to go with anything. Truly a unique bride. I met with Jenny back in the summer of 2006 and from that moment on, she was planning like crazy.

It wasn't until two days before the wedding to that I finally met Jack. But I could tell from the past year that he already knew those two magic words that make a marriage work...."yes dear". Never did I hear about a complaint he might have, and he even took dancing lessons so the couple could dazzle their guests on the dance floor.

They sure knew how to pick their wedding vendors too. Jenny found a fantastic DJ Entertainment company "Beyond Sound" and a great photographer, Lisa Luft of "Tickled Pink Photography".

Kudos to Beyond Sound, they definitely knew how to keep 3/4 of the guests on the dance floor at all times.

Jack & Jenny,

I couldn't be happier for the two of you and we wish you both many years of happiness. It was our pleasure to have assisted in making your day a memorable one.

June 16, 2007 - Kiki & Kevin

Kiki & Kevin, what a fantastic couple. They sure know how to have fun!

You would have to when they said they wanted a baseball themed wedding, that wouldn't be tacky. Seeing as that is how they met, it seemed truly fitting that they brought ina Home Plate to be married over and had a very original wedding cake, made out of Tim Horton's timbits!

Kiki approached me in 2006 to be their wedding consultant and I have to say, she was one of the most easy going brides ever. No bridezilla here!

The bridal party's transportation was the Granville Island Taxi and Kiki sure thought it was funny when they were docking at the yacht club and she told the drive....I've changed my mind.....let's leave. A fake out none the less, but isn't that what they do in baseball too, when they want to steal a base?

The weather cooperated just long enough for them to have the evening ceremony on the balcony of the False Creek Yacht Club....then it was inside for more cocktails and hors d'oeuvres.

It was a pleasure to work with them both and congrat's to the new Wainwright family!

May 20th, 2006 - April & Trevor

April & Trevor.....May 20th, 2006

What can I say...this couple had a beautiful wedding that was held at Occasions by the Pond in Surrey, BC. The outdoor ceremony was beautiful and the weather decided to grace this couple and not be the typical May long weekend weather.

It was a pleasure working with this couple and I wish them many years of happiness together.
